VirtualHRPros.com Author: Bill Vogel, PHR Each year, before March 31st, most private businesses with 100 or more employees must provide the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission with information about their employees. Businesses provide this information electronically by uploading or entering employee data that will complete an EEO-1 form. Businesses overlooking this compliance requirement increase their exposure to long and costly audits down the road.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or EEOC for short, is just one of the many US federal enforcement agencies that regulates businesses. Among their many responsibilities, the EEOC takes steps to help ensure workplace equality. This includes a review of employee data such as age, sex, and specific races/ethnicities. As the deadline approaches, here’s some helpful information for businesses that have never filed an EEO-1 form:
The Equal EEOC opens the EEO-1 survey in January due to its complexity. So, there’s good reason for having access more than eight weeks before the EEO-1 survey is due, especially for employers with more than 1,000 employees. Therefore, businesses need to start early. I suggest start by reading the frequently asked questions and then making sure the account number and password work by accessing the account as soon as possible. As always, get help from a qualified HR Professional if you think your business is at risk, or needs help developing policies, procedures, and training courses help with workplace compliance requirements.
